Last Saturday night, the South Brisbane Wolves Premier Men’s team delivered an electrifying performance at the first Premier Volleyball League Showcase Round of the season. Hosted at Rochedale State High School’s Rochedale Sports Centre — affectionately known as the Wolves Den — the match against the University of Queensland Volleyball Club, the Goats, was an intense and thrilling contest.

The match was a hard-fought battle, with the Wolves eventually claiming victory 3-2 in what was described as an extremely tough fight. The team’s resilience and grit were evident throughout the game, especially from key players who stepped up to make a difference.

Zac Barrett was outstanding, rising to the occasion with powerful serving and aggressive plays through the middle, dominating both blocking and kill points. Captain Jonah Pearce made a strong return after a long recovery from injury, bringing leadership and energy alongside teammates Hinkley and Tommy Savea . Setter Lewis Begg was a steady and reliable presence on court, consistently making strong decisions to guide the team.

Last Saturday, 10th May, marked a historic moment for the South Brisbane Wolves as the Premier Women’s team stepped onto the court for their first Showcase Round of the 2025 PVL season. Facing off against the University of Queensland’s “Goats” at Rochedale Sports Centre—fondly known as the Wolves Den—the Wolves women roared into the league spotlight with a commanding 3-0 victory in front of a roaring home crowd.

The atmosphere was nothing short of electric, with approximately 380 spectators filling the stands across the night. Music pumping, crowd cheering, and the unmistakable buzz of volleyball energy created a night to remember. The crowd enthusiastically responded to standout moments, including Maya Siwek’s stellar serving run and ace count, and Scarlet Rudder’s dominance at the net with thunderous hits that had the Den erupting.

For the second consecutive year, the Wolves have secured the bronze medal at the Premier Volleyball League championship, showcasing their remarkable consistency and determination. After an incredible season of hard work, teamwork, and perseverance , the Wolves’ Premier Men’s team proved once again that they are among the best in the state.

In a thrilling match against the rising performance of Gold Coast Volleyball Club , the Wolves displayed their grit and growth to come out on top against some of the fiercest competition this season. Despite facing challenges throughout the season, including injuries and tough matches, the team’s commitment to each other and their goal was unwavering.

A standout performance from Isaiah Uele , the U18 Outside Hitter , played a huge role in the team’s success. Rising to the occasion, Isaiah stepped up throughout the season after Jonah Pearce , the team’s captain, was sidelined by an early season-ending injury . Isaiah’s leadership and incredible play were key factors in the team’s achievement.

President Cameron Gore shared his pride in the team’s accomplishment:

In an unforgettable performance, the South Brisbane Wolves Premier Men’s team secured the bronze medal at the 2023 competition, marking their first-ever medal in the Premier Men division of Volleyball Queensland's Premier Volleyball League . The win, which came in a thrilling match against Norths Volleyball Association , was a true display of grit and determination, proving that hard work and commitment pay off.

One of the standout performances came from Isaiah Meredith , who had an unbelievable game , contributing 7 kill blocks —a key factor in securing the team’s victory.

Coach Ross Symonds , a Life Member of Volleyball Queensland, shared his thoughts on the team’s success:

"Winning the bronze medal was a proud moment for our team. It’s the result of months of hard work, dedication, and resilience. Every player brought their best to the court, and it was a true team effort. We couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together, and this medal will only fuel our drive for next season."

Captain Jonah Pearce also reflected on the team’s journey, highlighting the challenges faced throughout the season:

"It’s been a tough road with injuries and setbacks, but our team really stepped up when it mattered most. Everyone had to dig deep and put the team first, and that’s what led us to this bronze medal. I’m so proud of how everyone fought through and supported each other to get the job done."

In a remarkable debut season, the South Brisbane Wolves made history by winning the Volleyball Queensland State Championships Presidents Shield in 2020. Competing against some of the state’s best teams, the Wolves showcased determination, teamwork, and passion to claim the title—an extraordinary achievement for a club in its inaugural year.
