Wolves Premier Women Make Their Mark in Showcase Round Launch

May 15, 2025

A new era begins at the Wolves Den with a powerful performance, community energy and club pride

Last Saturday, 10th May, marked a historic moment for the South Brisbane Wolves as the Premier Women’s team stepped onto the court for their first Showcase Round of the 2025 PVL season. Facing off against the University of Queensland’s “Goats” at Rochedale Sports Centre—fondly known as the Wolves Den—the Wolves women roared into the league spotlight with a commanding 3-0 victory in front of a roaring home crowd.

The atmosphere was nothing short of electric, with approximately 380 spectators filling the stands across the night. Music pumping, crowd cheering, and the unmistakable buzz of volleyball energy created a night to remember. The crowd enthusiastically responded to standout moments, including Maya Siwek’s stellar serving run and ace count, and Scarlet Rudder’s dominance at the net with thunderous hits that had the Den erupting.

Building Identity and Laying Foundations

Head Coach Shane Van Beest reflected on the importance of the night not just for the scoreboard, but for team culture and long-term development:

“The best aspect of last night was getting together and starting to figure out our brand and identity as effectively a new Premier team. Great teams are built with trust, which allows them to progress to even higher levels and push the team forward. I think a great platform has been laid, and I’m looking forward to continued growth in all aspects of our game.”

Unity, Growth and Unmatched Support

Captain Kylee White, one of Australia’s most sought-after setters and current Queensland Pirates captain, shared her excitement about the team’s cohesion and community support:

“My favourite part of last night’s game was finally seeing our team come together and showcase our strengths. The energy from the Wolves community was unmatched, making our first game of the season—and our first as a new team—truly unforgettable. We’re excited to keep growing together as the season unfolds.”

A Club Built on Culture and Development

Vice President Sam Rhodes also acknowledged the milestone for the program and the wider impact of the night:

“Tonight’s results are a strong reflection of the positive direction and continued development of the club across all levels. The Premier Women delivered a commanding 3-0 performance in their first match as a team, highlighting their skill and cohesion. Additionally, having two of our U17 boys involved as line judges in the women’s match demonstrates our commitment to developing young talent and fostering a supportive, inclusive club culture. Overall, it’s a proud night that speaks to the depth and unity within our club.”
